The holidays are approaching and it’s safe to say it’s going to look a little different this year. With everything that’s taken place in 2020, we understand how easy it is to slip into a “funk” this time of year. The good news is, it’s easy to slip out of it too. What makes these last 2 months of the year so special is the memories we create with friends and family. While that may look different this year, it doesn’t mean it’s gone for good. There are lots of ways to make memories, stay connected, and uplift others. Here are some ideas from us!
Giving Back
Many of us may be thinking about who will be around our table, but in reality, so many will be more worried about what they will put on it. COVID-19 has contributed to rising unemployment numbers and as a result, many people are struggling just to feed their families. This has caused an increased demand for our country’s food banks and they need our help now more than ever.
At VASA, we believe in UPLIFTing the community and that’s why we are collecting donations to support Feeding America this month to help the nation’s food banks be able to provide meals to families all over the country. Please consider helping to feed those in need this holiday season. No donation is too small. Just $1 can provide up to 10 meals for a family in need. Just click the link below to donate. We will bill the card you have on file on November 30th.
Virtual Celebrations
Just because you’re apart doesn’t mean you can’t share the experience. Build out the Thanksgiving menu with your friends and family all make the same recipes. Share the joy of meal prep with your friends and family over Zoom or Facetime. Purchase the same candle or agree on the same playlist to create the same ambiance. Make a place at your table for your device of choice and enjoy connecting with friends and family from afar.
New Traditions
Now is a great time to build new traditions that help keep us grounded in what we do have and less focused on what we don’t. Start a gratitude jar, write down 1 thing on a piece of paper each day, and put it in the jar. When you are feeling down, pull a few of them out and read them. It will help put your focus on what you’re thankful for.
There’s no question this time of the year can be hard on people, so if nothing else, showing patience, kindness, and grace to others will go a long way in helping others, and yourself, feel uplifted and thankful.
